Guan Yin Practice Retreat
In the past, he became a Buddha named Proper Dharma Eye Thus Come One. Now he manifests as Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva. Because he gave away his eyes to rescue living beings, he obtained a thousand eyes. Because he gave away his hands to cure sentient creatures, he obtained a thousand hands. He practiced what was hard to practice, renounced what was hard to renounce, endured what was hard to endure, and yielded what was hard to yield. Amassing merit through accumulated practice, from a little there came to be a lot. For that reason, he has today’s affinities in Dharma, and acts as a kindly refuge for living beings bestowing fearlessness throughout the Dharma Realm, rescuing the confused inhabitants of the Saha World. In every household, there is Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva. Inside each door one finds the greatly compassionate savior. To see his image brings escape from suffering. Hearing his name eradicates one’s karma. The verse proclaims:
A thousand eyes keep watch, a thousand hands extend,
To help sentient beings escape the flood of confusion.
With universal vows to save them all from suffering,
Through Maha Prajna, they reach the other shore.
A thousand eyes keep watch, a thousand hands extend,
To help sentient beings escape the flood of confusion.
With universal vows to save them all from suffering,
Through Maha Prajna, they reach the other shore.
